Accretion Physics and Particle Acceleration

Date: 4 November 2011
Time: 1pm -6 pm
Location: NASA-Goddard Blg 34, Room W120 (GSFC Badge Required)

The Maryland-Goddard Joint Space-Science Institute (JSI) will have its next minisymposium at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. This minisymposium will be the first of a series this year on various aspects of accretion onto compact objects and particle acceleration. As the first, it will have three talks at the introductory level about topics related to this theme. The schedule is as follows:

1:00-2:00 -- Catered lunch

2:00-2:30 -- Chris Reynolds on the basics of accretion disks

2:30-3:00 -- Discussion

3:00-3:30 -- Break

3:30-4:00 -- Jim Drake on the basics of plasma physics and particle acceleration

4:00-4:30 -- Discussion

4:30-5:00 -- Break

5:00-5:30 -- John Baker on the basics of dynamical strong gravity with matter and magnetic fields

5:30-6:00 -- Discussion

Subsequent minisymposia this academic year will explore details related to each of these three subjects.

Please note that NASA-Goddard is a secured facility and you will require a GSFC badge to gain entry to the campus.
