"GW150914: The Birth of Gravitational-Wave Astronomy"
The recent observation of gravitational waves from a binary black-hole merger by LIGO marks the beginning of a new era in physics and astrophysics. I will review the theoretical work that paved the way to observe such a signal and discuss the results of the discovery focusing on its gravitational, astrophysical and fundamental physics aspects.
